Regarding a Texas state map, there are quite a few places to write about and many more that will be coming up. With several new Real Estate Developments in Dallas and Houston alone, it is hard to believe there is this so called, recession. I guess it all depends. . .

Usually when I take my road trips between Dallas and Houston I try to have as much fun as possible in the area between, making unnecessary stops and trying to meet the town’s people along the way. This is where a good Texas state map comes in handy.

I never really had the desire to go to Houston and spend any significant amount of time as my Texas state map had shown Houston as being a city with an abundance of people and not so much space to accommodate everyone. I did not have this experience when I went to visit a friend and ended up staying for almost a week. I had a lovely time!

On my version of the Texas state map I did not see the markings of the Museum District in Houston, but I know for a fact some maps do have this clearly marked. It is important to try and find a map that meets your specific needs when going to see certain attractions. The internet, of course, has an unlimited amount of information for whatever map you may seek.

A Texas state map is a necessity for me as I don’t usually travel around Texas by plane. There are too many wonderful spots you would not otherwise get to visit. While in Houston, I had the pleasure of visiting a little Café by the name, Salento. Adorable! And the people, patrons and staff, were so nice.

I actually found a few different versions of a Texas state map that I had not found before. I did not need one of the maps I had spent so much time collecting by the time I left Houston. I was so pleased about the outcome of my trip that I didn’t stop along the way like I usually do when driving home.

As usual time passes so quickly when spending time with loved ones even after extending my trip a few extra days, we found time a little short to visit all of the wonderful little places there are to see in Houston. I am not so sure I will need a Texas state map the next time I visit Houston.

I already have a favorite little place to buy the best Brioche! In Texas! If you get a chance while in Houston, stop by the adorable little Croissant Brioche. They have fresh squeezed juice in addition to coffee and pastries and also serve wonderful soups and sandwiches for lunch!

My friend had introduced me to the little neighborhood spots in the Rice University area. You can find this on a Texas state map around the 77030 zip code. Adorable little spots with the friendliest people and perfect for stopping in for a cup of coffee and reading e-mail.

Traveling from Texas to Taiwan to meet my boyfriends parents in December. Any suggestions?

I will be in Nantou for 1 week in December. Any suggestions for good restaurants, karaoke bars, Buddhist temples, or anything you think we should experience while there? We will have a rental car.

Also, does anyone have cultural advice or insight for me as an American? How to show respect in ways which matter most? Common misunderstandings to avoid?

I’ve lived in Taichung for over seven years and have been to Nantou many times, so I can attest to the fact that Nantou is full of scenic spots- if you know where to go. Here’s a brief list of places you should defiantly visit while your there.

1. Aowanda National Forest- This forest is the only place in Taiwan that I’ve been to where I’ve actually seen trees with the red and yellow leaves of autumn. I was lucky enough to acatually see it on an day when there wasn’t many people. The only thing I’m not sure about is wheter the leaves will still be there in December since Taiwan has a different climate. So ask around and go if possible.

2. Sun Moon Lake- Largest lake in Taiwan, built by the Japanese in colonial times. There are several notable temples surrounding the lake, including one dedicated to Tang San Zang detailing his travels from the “Journey to the West.” You can also go on boat tours if you wish.

3. He Huan Shan- This mountain is pretty high at about 3400 meters, and is one of the most ascessable ones as a main cross island highway passes next to it. Sometimes if your lucky and the weather is right, you might even get a bit of snow.

4. Lu-Shan Hot Springs- Since your going in December it will be a tad chilly, so take some time to relax in the natural hot springs. Interesting thing about Lu-Shan is the old style suspension bridge in the town, which looks beautiful when it’s covered by mist near twilight.

5. Wushe- Wushe is just a town one would normally pass through, but the road leading from Puli to Wushe is lined with cherry blossoms planted by a farmer.

6. Chi-Chi Train Station- Old train station also built in the colonial times (I think) but was severely damaged in the 921 earthquake of 1999. It was given a makeover and is now a popular tourist site where tourists can rent bikes and go biking in the fields nearby.

Thats pretty much my short list of places to visit. As for cultural advice… One common problem that Americans run into is that some homes may require you to take off your shoes at the door and wear slippers while indoors. Also its inpolite as well as unclean to use your own chopsticks to take items from a shared platter. I guess thats all I can think of for now. Oh, and don’t assume that everyone in Taiwan can or prefers to speak chinese. Some older people prefer to speak Taiwanese so maybe learn to say a few phrases of Taiwanese.

And if you get tired of Nantou head over to Taichung, which is actually a pretty nice place to live in. It has Subways, Costco (opening in november), as well as several department stores.

The grand opening of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood over eighty years ago in 1927 was perhaps the most significant theatre opening in film history. Taking over a year to create, the partnership responsible was headed by Sid Grauman, one of America’s early showmen and opened with a swarming crowd attending the premiere of Cecil B. DeMille’s The King of Kings. Today, it remains a must-see on the sightseer’s path around LA.

Located at 6928 Hollywood Boulevard, The Chinese Theatre was built in celebration of the accomplishment of the neighbouring Grauman’s Egyptian Theatre constructed just five years previously. Grauman, who owned a one-third interest with his partners, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, and Howard Schenck used the same architectural firm, Meyer and Holler with Raymond M. Kennedy as the chief architect.

Upon arrival, the visual impact of the theatre is quite breathtaking. Forming the outer shell is a splendid, red Chinese pagoda, featuring a huge stone-carved dragon across the front, two original giant Heaven lion-dogs brought from China watching over the main entrance, and the silhouettes of smaller dragons along the sides of the bronze roof held aloft by and two 90-feet high coral red columns. A historic-cultural landmark since 1968, there has always been a restoration program in process to maintain the theatre’s splendor.

Above all, Grauman’s Chinese Theatre is most famous for its dazzling forecourt crammed with renowned movie stars’ hand and footprints – over 200 since 1927. In a brief interview in 1937 Lux Radio Theatre program Grauman told Cecil B. DeMille how he got the inspiration of putting hand and footprints in the cement. He claimed that it was by “pure accident. I walked right into it. While we were building the theatre, I accidentally happened to step in some soft concrete. And there it was. These days, you can wander in and out of prints from past and present, among them alternative marks like that of the cigars of Groucho Marx and the wands of Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.

More than four-million visitors from across the globe visit Grauman’s every year as it continues to retain an important standing in the movie tradition. Not only does it immortalize Hollywood heroes for fans to see but it is the most sought-after theatre in Hollywood for studio premieres. Admirers gather at these events hoping to catch a glimpse of their favourite celebrities as they walk up the red carpet.
